Primary Section Activities 2019-20

SPELL BEE COMPETITION

Spelling, the art of correctly assembling words from their letters, is one of the essential components of successful writing. Here lies the importance of Spell Bee Competitions in schools. Most valuable learning result of spelling bee competitions is gaining competency over vocabulary and this allows them to improve significantly at reading, writing and speaking. The ability to understand more and more words will allow children to become literate and enjoy reading a wide range of materials.

As every other year, a Spell Bee Competition was conducted for the students of grade I to V on 15th January, 2020. The teachers from Department of English uploaded 20 word each, from the month of July to December, in the school website. The question paper consisted of three categories of evaluation. Students were enthusiastic and did a systematic preparation for the competition, which resulted in producing an amazing result. The winners were awarded certificates and story books in the assembly held on 19th February 2020.

Awareness on Novel Coronavirus

During the activity period students were given awareness on Novel Coronovirus as per the guidelines of Ministry of Education.

Picnic to Saqr Park (I-V)

Picnics and outings are recreational activities which rejuvenate children after continuous studies. To give them a break from the monotony of work, Picnics were held for the classes I to V at Saqr Park in December 2019 & in January 2020. The students of different classes were taken on different days. They were escorted by their class teachers. There they had fun-filled day full of fun activities. Refreshments, swings and rides filled the children with renewed vigour. They had gala time in the lush green grass of the park.

Action Song Competition - Class I

To provide a platform to the students to exhibit their talent of singing with actions is the purpose of the competition. They provide an opportunity to develop social, communication and language skills.

Students of class I participated in the Action Song Competitions that was held in three languages namely – Hindi, English, and Malayalam on 8th & 9th January 2020. Based on the results of the preliminary rounds, the final round of Action Song competition was held for the shortlisted students. Three students were judged as winners under each category of the Action Song competition.

Juniors’ Day Celebration 2019-20

The campus of IPHS glittered with jubilation and delight on 27th November 2019 as it was the occasion of Juniors’ Day Celebration. The chief guest of the function was Dr. Prateeksha Shetty, Clinical Psychologist, RAK Hospital. The Chairman Mr. Reji Skaria, the Principal, Mrs. Anubha Nijhawan, Vice Principal, Dr. Annamma Mathew, Supervisors were present. The programme commenced at 5 p.m with the recital of Holy Quran followed by the UAE and India’s National Anthem. Primary section Annual Report was read by the supervisor Mrs. Shammy Santhosh. The annual report encapsulated the achievements and accomplishments of the students as well as school for the year 2019- 20. Proficiency certificates were awarded to those excelling in academics. The cultural extravaganza showcased the talent of juniors. It started with the scintillating welcome dance followed by a variety of performances. The students enthralled the audience with their mesmerizing performance. The vibrant songs, colourful costumes and synchronization filled the air with liveliness. The programme culminated with a happy note.

Thematic Assembly – Importance of Exercise

Thematic Assembly on the Importance of Exercise was conducted on Wednesday, 6th November 2019 in the Primary Section.

UAE FLAG DAY ACTIVITY – PRIMARY SECTION

IPHS organized different activities in connection with Flag Day on 3rd November 2019.

Activities: Draw & Colour UAE Flag, To write the importance of each colour in the flag, Slogan Writing.

Special Assembly on Kerala Piravi @ IPHS

Kerala Piravi marks the birth of the state of Kerala in India. The Kerala state was created on November 1, 1956. Students of Primary Section celebrated it with great enthusiasm. A Special Assembly was conducted by class II A on 30th October 2019 as a dedication to all the Keralites. Students danced along with a beautiful Malayalam song describing the enchanting beauty of the Gods own country. This was followed by a talk by the class teacher of II A, Mrs. Lavannya Praveen highlighting the significant features on geographical wonders of Kerala. All together the assembly was very informative and entertaining.

STUDENT INTEREST SURVEY – CLASSES III TO V

Student Interest Survey was conducted from 20th October 2019 to 28th October 2019 for the classes III to V in Computer Lab.

Objective: To know the individual students’ interest, hobbies and their preferences for a variety of activities.

Special Assembly on Diwali –Primary Section

Diwali, the festival of light symbolises the spiritual “victory of light over darkness, good over evil and knowledge over ignorance.” The students celebrated Diwali with lot of festive fervour through a school assembly on 23rd October 2019 by the Primary Section students.

EDUCATIONAL TRIP TO DESERT OASIS NURSERY - Class II

The students of Class II were taken to Desert Oasis Nursery, RAK on 21st October 2019. The objective of the trip was to make the students aware of the different types of plants like herbs, shrubs, climbers, creepers. It was a good opportunity to gather knowledge pertaining to their sustainability and understand the native plants and their characteristics features. The students enjoyed a lot and the trip was informative and interesting.

Story Narration Competition -Class II

The aim of conducting Story Narration Competition is to give an opportunity to students to exhibit their narrative skills. Competition in Story Narration gives students an opportunity to showcase their inherent narrative skills.

Students of class II activity took part in Story Narration Competitions held in Hindi, English and Malayalam languages on 16th and 17th October 2019. It was fascinating to watch children narrate stories with actions, voice modulations and using props. The competitions were conducted in 2 rounds and the winners of final rounds of competition will be awarded with certificates.

Reading Week Activity – Primary Section

The Reading Week Program held on  17th September & 19th September 2019 comprised of various reading activities by the students of classes I & V. Activities like Reading Comprehension, News Paper Reading and Readathon were conducted. The program enlightened the students on the ‘Importance of Reading’ and aimed at inculcating this habit in them.

Thematic assembly was conducted by the Primary Section on 1st May 2019.

Theme: International Labour Day

IPHS participates in Sharjah Children’s Reading Festival

On 23rd April 2019 students of Class V visited the Children’s Reading Festival, Sharjah. There were a huge number of books on various subjects and languages by different publishers at their respective stalls. Students were amused at seeing many different kinds of stalls. Students purchased books of their interest.

Activities such as Poetry Session, Speaker’s Session, Shows & Plays, Live Cooking Shows, Various workshops, Cultural activities also captivated the students. Students were happy with their new books. Overall it was a nice experience to visit International Book Fair.

World Heritage Day

As a part of World Heritage Day, on 18th April 2019, Students of class V were taken to Al Haboos Arts & Folks Society, Ras Al Khaimah. It was organised by the UAE Social Studies department under the supervision of Primary Section Supervisor Mrs. Shammy Santhosh. They were accompanied by their subject teachers. It helped them to understand the life of Ancient Arabs, their Culture and Traditions. The incharge staff of the society explained the importance of World Heritage Day to the students and created awareness about UAE’s Culture.

Poster Designing related to ‘World Heritage Day’ was held in the Primary & Middle Section. Students used colours to express their creativity and showcased Culture and Traditions of UAE in the posters.

Orientation Programme – Primary Section

A parent is a teacher at home and a teacher is a parent at school and the child is the center of their universe. Understanding the vital role of parents in the overall development of the child, IPHS organized an orientation program for the parents of Grade 1 and 2 on 4th April 2019 in the school premises. The aim was to familiarize the parents as ‘Partners in Progress’ with the curriculum, rules and regulations of the school, teaching methodologies and the co-scholastic activities. The session started with an introductory note by our respected Principal Mrs. Anubha Nijhawan. Madam introduced the class teachers and explained the policies of Ministry of Education and school regarding academics, attendance, transportation, health and safety of students. In her speech she laid stress on the holistic development of the child which is the main aim and objective of the school.

It was followed by an awareness talk by school Student Counselor Mrs. Bitty Devasia. Parents were appraised about the Special Educational Care provided by the school to the slow learners. This session was followed by an interactive session between parents and class teachers of Grade 1, where they detailed information regarding academics and non academic activities. The session ended at 7:30 pm.
